Carrymore Becomes Newest Member of 1% For The Planet

As a social enterprise, CARRYMORE is incredibly proud to be a member of the 1% For The Planet global network. We chose to join the 1% For The Planet movement as its nonprofit partners focus solely on finding solutions to some of the worst environmental issues facing the planet today.

Currently, of all global philanthropy that occurs each year, only  3% goes to the environment and, only 3% of that comes from businesses.

The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of fellow member businesses is doing its valuable part to increase giving and support to on the ground outcomes.

"We're excited to welcome CARRYMORE to our global network, says Kate Williams, CEO  of 1% For The Planet. "Members of 1% For The Planet contribute one percent of annual sales directly to any of the approved nonprofit environmental organisations in the network. Nonprofits are approved based on referrals, track record and environmental focus."

To date, the 1% For The Planet global network has donated more than $175 million to environmental nonprofit partners and this is increasing every year through consumer support and awareness.

Being a member of 1% For The Planet means that 100% of our contributions go directly to the environmental nonprofit partner of our choosing. So we make sure we are supporting foundations that are aligned with our mission. To help put an end to global deforestation!

Why Deforestation?

Forests play a pivotal role in protecting not only our wildlife but entire ecosystems. Helping to regulate weather patterns, and even the climate. Yet they continue to be chopped down at an alarming rate. In fact studies conducted by the Global Forest Watch tell us that we lost up to 40 Football Fields Every Minute of Tropical Tree Cover in 2017.

So when research suggests that Tropical Tree Cover alone can provide 23 percent of the climate mitigation needed over the next decade to meet goals set in the Paris Agreement in 2015. Why aren't we doing more to stop it? and how can we do more to protect and preserve these precious forests?

Sad Truths About Deforestation

  • If tropical deforestation were a country, it would rank third in carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions, only behind China and the United States of America.
  • Forests receive just 3 percent of available climate mitigation finance.

Who Can Help Fight Deforestation?

The simple answer to this is, we all can! Simply by starting to become aware of the issue and the main culprits behind human-led deforestation, such as animal agriculture. We can take steps to avoid contributing to it in the first place.

One of the easiest ways is to start reducing your meat intake. Or better yet switch to a plant-based diet! The less people we have demanding meat and dairy products, the less forests need to be cleared to make room for livestock.

However if going vegan is off the cards, then we recommend supporting organisations like Rainforest4, Rainforest Alliance, The Rainforest Trust or like us the legends over at Halfcut!

An organisation who also happens to be our 1% For The Planet environmental nonprofit partner. Meaning when you support us you are also supporting them. What's more? On top of our 1% For the Planet commitment, every carrier we sell will save 1sqm of Aussie Rainforest for life!
