To Care Is To Carry | Why The World Needs Carrymore

I think this is a question that needs to be asked at the inception of every brand. Why do we exist, what is our purpose, and how can we help others?

But too often the answer to these questions is simply, to profit.

I have worked for companies like this. We have all worked for companies like this. Why not? They pay our bills, its safe, reliable.

For over 600 years, capitalism has reigned supreme. Companies were expected to generate the most profits for their shareholders. With no concern for the environment, its employees or the communities where they operate. Leaving nothing but trails of waste behind. All that mattered was the bottom line and how much the shareholders earned on their investments. The pursuit of profits prevailed over everything else. But at a certain point, profit simply doesn't cut it anymore.

Consumers, like you and I, are waking up to the fact that these companies don't often have our best interests at heart. Putting their profits over people and the environment. Look to the fast fashion industry and you will find many examples of this. An industry that is now known as one of the biggest polluters in the world.

When profit is a company's only end goal, then the planet, its fragile ecosystem and the ones who inhabit it are the ones who suffer.

More and more we are seeing evidence of global warming. Horrific natural disasters occuring way too often and at a much higher intensity.

An issue close to my heart and a great example of this are the Australian bushfires of 2019/20 where entire towns have been engulfed in flames, and residents (furry ones too) have lost their homes.  In total, more than 17.9 million acres (7.3 million hectares) were lost across Australia's six states. An area larger than the countries of Belgium and Denmark combined.

But when we look to our leaders for action and guidance on these issues, they are nowhere to be found. It is like they are scared to admit the truth. Would rather sweep the issue under the rug, brush it off or ignore it altogether. At least this is how I feel...

This is not to say companies or people like this do not exist. In fact I look up to and constantly draw inspiration from many of these legends. Carrymore's northern star however would have to be Jimmy Stanton-Cooke. A.K.A. Jimmy Halfcut., Founder of Halfcut.org and true ambassador for the forests!

It's legends like Jimmy that have inspired the Why behind Carrymore. Why does Carrymore exist? And I’m here to tell you it’s to help put an end to global deforestation! One of the leading causes of climate change!

Right now, over half the World's forests have been destroyedand every second, more than one hectare of tropical forests is destroyed or drastically degraded.

In fact, in 2017 the World Lost 40 Football Fields of Tropical Trees Every Minute. Now I'm no rocket scientist, but something tells me if we keep going at this rate, there simply won't be any trees left! Trees whose all important job is converting our carbon emissions into clean breathable fresh air and supporting all life on this planet.

So, starting in our very own backyard, the CARRYMORE™ Crew have committed to saving 1sqm of our beautiful Daintree Rainforest, for every product sold.

By supporting land buy-back initiatives to stop deforestation, one of the leading causes of climate change, the CARRYMORE™ crew can help be part of the solution to the climate emergency!

What's more? Each lot of land that is purchased through these initiatives is returned to its Traditional Owners. In particular the Kuku Yalanji tribe of Far North Queensland. Who work to preserve and protect the many threatened and endangered species, as well as manage and revegetate the lost habitat.

Never before has our planet, and we as people, faced the number and scale of man-made challenges than we do today. Real change is needed. Not just from politicians and businesses - but from all of us.

Without understanding the situation, and without developing a deeper conscience about the lives we are living - and the consequences it has - such changes are unlikely to occur.

“Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world!”

That is my belief. And it is through Carrymore that I hope to inspire, educate and represent people who care for our environment. People who want to leave the planet in a better way than they found it. By helping put a stop to deforestation and RE-Wilding the Earth!

Are you with me?
